Color and Selective Focus
Some post-processing: Levels (Midtone slider:1.025), Warming filter, Deep Red Filter, Sharpening (unsharp mask: 150% 1 0)

As you can see the overcast is very apparent in this picture. I tried my best to lighten the photo, and keep the color saturation in the flower petals at the same time. This is why I added in a deep red filter into the mix. But this is no substitution to a warm early morning sun.

Lesson Learned: Lighting is key.

I agree with Henry. Your f/1.8 shots have been very interesting. The bokeh of the f/1.8 is pretty nice, sort like strokes on an oil canvas.
