Nikon D70s - 50mm Prime @, 1/640s, f/2.8, Aperture Priority, Matrix Metering Taken on: 2006-06-08_07-58-29
Color and Selective Focus Some post-processing: Warming filter, Sharpening (unsharp mask: 150% 1 0)
As you can see, I didn't use f/1.8 on my 50mm this time. Why? Because it would mean the flowers in the background would be nothing but a pink blob, and you wouldn't be able to make it out. I set the aperture small enough so the the background is barely recognizable.
It's times like these when I wish I had a Macro Nikkor.

It's impressive that you took the consideration to use the f2.8 to get more shape from the flowers. That's a sign of a great photographer. I hope you have more of this series coming up. If not, take more!

Michael is right, it is interesting that you actually thought about stopping down one for just the background. Pretty much everyone I know would have just shot wide open knowing that the background will be blurred. The macro would have helped out a lot though. I know the feeling of trying to approach something only to find that you can't focus that close!
