ComplementaryPosted by Daniel Chen (New York, United States) on 3 December 2006 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. Nikon D70s - 50mm Prime @, 1/500s, f/2.8, Aperture Priority, Matrix Metering Color and Selective Focus What I like the most about this picture is the balance between colors: Purple and yellow; they're complementary colors, add in the green leaves in the background and you have a triad of colors. What I think is a lovely balance of color. I used f/2.8 once again, to make the yellow flower in the background a little more in focus than shooting wide open at f/1.8. I didn't want to stop down any further, for example f/4, because I didn't want the yellow flower to distract from the purple, which I choose as the main subject because it has much more detail than the yellow. However the yellow flower in the background plays a major role in the photograph. Maybe the title should be titled "Triad" and not "Complementary"
